Cover Fence Installation: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide
Cover fence installation in West Palm Beach typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter, and we keep the most common Cover-compatible post anchors, rails, and gate hardware on the truck for same-week installs. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Cover, but we work with their system daily and know exactly which components fail first in Florida humidity and which ones hold. Most homeowners find us after a gate starts dragging, a post wobbles at the base, or a section of rail pulls loose after a storm – and they want a straight answer on whether to patch or replace.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover’s fence system runs across their Classic and Horizon lines, and the installation hardware is broadly interchangeable between the two. The critical measurement is the post profile: Cover uses a 2-3/8-inch square post on most residential runs and a 3-inch square on taller privacy sections or gates. Check the inside face of any post cap or the base plate stamping for a series number – it’ll read something like CV-4 or CV-6, and that number tells you which rail bracket set was spec’d for the job.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most owners miss: Cover’s rail brackets are directional. The left-hand and right-hand brackets look nearly identical on a workbench, but one flipped bracket throws the rail out of level by about 3/16 of an inch – enough to bind a gate. We mark them before disassembly so the reinstall goes back exactly as the manufacturer intended.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: Cover’s own brackets and post caps are well-built for Florida if they’re kept clean and the fasteners are stainless. We’ll use OEM parts when the customer asks for them, but for post anchors and gate hinges, we usually recommend the powder-coated aftermarket units we stock because they’re built specifically for South Florida’s salt air and somehow cost less than the factory pieces. The finish on the factory anchors tends to blister after four or five years within a mile of the Intracoastal.

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drags or scrapes at the latch side. This is almost always a sagging hinge post, not a bent gate. Cover’s gate posts are aluminum, and aluminum flexes under repeated cycles. The post has pulled forward maybe half a degree, which is enough to throw off the latch alignment. We can usually reset and shim the post without replacing the gate.
- Post wobbles when you push it with one hand. The concrete footing was either under-poured originally or has cracked around the base from storm-water erosion. West Palm Beach soil is sandy and drains fast, which is good for drainage and bad for footing stability – the sand shifts, the concrete cracks, and the post starts walking.
- Rail sag between posts. Cover’s horizontal rails are extruded aluminum, and they’re spec’d for specific spans. If a previous installer stretched the spacing past 8 feet to save on posts, the rails will bow in the middle within a season or two. The rail itself is usually fine; the spacing job wasn’t.
- White chalky corrosion at the bracket screws. That’s galvanic corrosion from steel screws driven into aluminum brackets without isolation washers. Salt air along the West Palm Beach coastline accelerates it. Left alone, the screw heads will seize and strip when someone finally tries to remove them.
- Post cap is lifting or cracked. Post caps are UV-stabilized plastic, and Florida sun is hard on them. A cracked cap lets water into the post, which pools at the base, which creates the ideal condition for internal oxidation. It’s a $12 part that protects a $90 post – replace it as soon as you see it split.

The upper end includes taller privacy sections, double gates or custom gate hardware, tear-out and haul-away of an old fence, and any concrete work needed to re-pour footings.

DIY or Call Us?
Fence work doesn’t carry the same danger as springs or electrical, but it does carry a tool bill and a weekend. You can safely reset a leaning post yourself if you’re comfortable mixing and pouring concrete, and you can swap a cracked post cap in about ten minutes. Where DIY goes wrong is gate geometry – a gate that’s off by a quarter inch at the hinge will never latch right, no matter how many times you adjust the striker. We also see homeowners reuse the old steel screws, which is the fastest way to restart the corrosion clock.
If the problem is a single post or one rail section, a handyman-grade repair might get you through the season. If you’re replacing more than two sections, or your gate is involved, call (728) 203-9809. We’ll walk the line with you and give you a number that holds.
FAQs

You’ll get 15 to 25 years out of the aluminum rails and posts if the concrete footings were sized correctly and you keep corrosion off the fasteners. Salt air within a mile of the Intracoastal trims that to the lower end. Call (728) 203-9809 if you want us to inspect your existing line and tell you honestly what’s left in it.
Yes, in most cases – post resets, bracket swaps, and gate re-hangs repair perfectly well if the rails themselves aren’t bent or cracked. The deciding factor is how many sections have racked out of square. If it’s three or more, replacement usually costs less than chasing it piecemeal. We’ll show you both numbers before anything gets ordered.
A standard residential perimeter runs 2 to 4 working days, start to finish, including tear-out and a cleaned site. Weather permitting, West Palm Beach’s afternoon thunderstorms can add a day if we’re pouring footings. You’ll have the schedule in writing before we start.
We keep post anchors, rail brackets, post caps, and gate hinges on the truck for the common series numbers, and we can have OEM Cover pieces from our supplier in a day or two. Same-week is usually realistic for the common stock. Call (728) 203-9809 with your series number and we’ll check the truck before you hang up.
